Ultrasound Technologist jobs in Chicago, IL

Ultrasound Technologist operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of the body's organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Being an Ultrasound Technologist records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed. May require an associate degree in a related area. Additionally, Ultrasound Technologist typically requires completion of an accredited program in Medical Sonography. May require registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). May require a state license to practice. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Ultrasound Technologist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. To be an Ultrasound Technologist typically requires 2 -4 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

    1. Performs all types of abdominal, OB-GYN, and will train immediately for venous Doppler of lower extremities, if not yet competent. 
    1. Record cases involving missed or unusual diagnosis for CQI and teaching file. 
    1. Assist Radiologists with examinations and reporting of urgent findings. 
    1. Be fully aware of all policy and procedure manual and protocols. 
    1. Assist with CQI studies when needed. 
    1. Report any malfunctioning equipment to lead and or Bio-Medical department. The technologist takes the equipment out of service, tags it with identification of the problem and leaves the film for review by service engineer. 
    1. Consult on progress of students. 
    1. Respond as a back-up technologist when problems with staffing. 
    1. Rotates on weekends and covers an equal share of on-call when needed competencies are completed. 
    1. Must perform examinations with few errors, as identified from follow up scan or findings related to other recent imaging modalities. The Lead Technologist and the Medical Director of Radiology determine acceptable image quality. 
    1. Other duties as assigned.
