Ultrasound Technologist operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of the body's organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Being an Ultrasound Technologist records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed. May require an associate degree in a related area. Additionally, Ultrasound Technologist typically requires completion of an accredited program in Medical Sonography. May require registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). May require a state license to practice. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Ultrasound Technologist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Job Summary: To perform various ultrasound procedures, including education and preparation of the patient and operation of ultrasound equipment. To perform general and vascular ultrasound procedures, as well as portable ultrasound exams in the operating room or special care areas within the hospital and at outpatient centers as needed.
Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited ultrasound technology program. Registered in both General and Vascular Sonography by ARDMS, ARRT, or CCI. On-going participation in continuing education. Considerable skill in performing various ultrasound studies, i.e., abdominal, OB, GYN in addition to vascular. Ability to accept new responsibilities as new equipment/examinations are introduced. Current BLS certification required.
