Ultrasound Technologist operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of the body's organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Being an Ultrasound Technologist records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed. May require an associate degree in a related area. Additionally, Ultrasound Technologist typically requires completion of an accredited program in Medical Sonography. May require registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). May require a state license to practice. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Ultrasound Technologist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Job Specific Requirements
Screen requisitions to ensure proper exams are being ordered and proper prep is called to the Nurse taking care of the patient.
Ensure proper work flow is being maintained.
Maintain positive relationship between Radiologist and sonographers.
Assist Lead Technologist and Supervisor in the day to day operation.
Primary person ensuring proper steps are taken in the documentation process of ultrasound exams (tracking/dictation of exam in timely manner).
Initiate service calls and documents.
Train fellow sonographers and students with complex and/or new techniques.

Applies the knowledge of growth and development over the lifespan.
Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on his or her assigned unit, i.e. Infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
Assesses data reflective of each patient s status and interprets information needed in order to identify each patient s age requirements relative to his or her age specific health care needs.
Abides by standards established by the hospital, state and federal regulatory agencies.
Assists supervisor with review of co-workers sonograms to ensure that they are following departmental policy. Provide a list of positives and negatives of the sonogram for educational purposes.
