    POSITION SUMMARY

    Receives and evaluates customer loan requests. Acts as a resource for information regarding loan decisions, customer loan inquiries, and company lending products and services. Responsible to grant or deny loans within limits assigned and to provide the highest quality of service to customers. The Underwriter role is a supportive role for the Consumer Loan Department.

    MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Receives customer loan requests through processes, evaluates, and underwrites loan requests using judgment and discretion in making decisions based on analyzing GBCI Loan Policy, Federal and State Regulations. Loans outside of guidelines or approval parameters are escalated to the Consumer Lending Manager, AVP of Lending, or VP of Lending/Operations with a recommendation as to the loan decision for each loan.
    • Responsible for communicating loan decisions including the ability to discuss loan denials, loan alternatives and rate computation in a clear, concise, and courteous manner.
    • Obtains and evaluates credit bureau reports, income documentation, collateral valuation reports, flood certifications, title information, and other factors relevant to the underwriting of consumer loans.
    • Recommends alterations or revisions to department policies and procedures as needed.
    • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
    • Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

    About You

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Two to Five years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITY:
    • A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school.
    • A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.
    • Incumbents are required to maintain their registration active, and current, with the National Mortgage Licensing System throughout their employment.
    WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to: sit; use hands in repetitive motions to finger, grasp, handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to: stand; walk; and lift or reach with hands and arms. Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion.

    Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation.

    Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Occasional lifting up to 10 lbs.

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation/inspection of machines and/or using measurement devices at distances close to the eyes.
