    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Elder, Watkins, Friedman & Allen is seeking a full-time real estate paralegal or legal assistant who has a minimum of 3 years of experience with title searches and real estate closings. In this role, you would be responsible for the management of multiple real estate transactions at one time, including managing closing schedules for commercial and/or residential properties, preparing title commitments, drafting contracts or other legal documents, conducting research, communicating with real estate agents, lenders, attorneys, and property owners, and preparing settlement statements.

    In addition, you may be called upon to assist the team with other legal projects, as needed. This role would report to the senior real estate closing assistant and to the attorneys handling real estate transactions for the firm.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Communicate with clients, gathering necessary documents and information.
    • Handling the preliminary review and preparation of various documents related to real estate transactions, including, but not limited to: title commitments, surveys, plats, deeds, title documents, executed contracts, leases, and other legal due diligence materials and supporting documentation.
    • Drafting the first copy of legal documents, including closing documents, contract amendments, easements, and other documents related to the transaction.
    • Creating, updating and maintaining critical dates, deadline notification emails and circulations to all necessary parties.
    • Communicating effectively and efficiently and keeping other team members apprised of the current state of all real estate matters.
    • Serving as a point of communication with title insurance companies to obtain title documents, clear title insurance requirements, and coordinate upcoming closings.
    • Creating, organizing and maintaining a legal file for each property to be acquired, sold, or leased.
    • Filing, organizing and creating closing binders for each closing transaction.
    • Handling issues and conflicts throughout the lifecycle of each transaction (including post-closing).
    • Developing and maintaining an overall knowledge of the real estate processes, procedures, and documentation requirements within each applicable locality.
    • Being called upon to participate in other legal projects, as needed.
    • Some daytime travel within a 60-mile radius of Farmville may be required.
    • Developing a familiarity with an implementing and utilizing software programs related to both real estate closings and general firm practice management.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

    • 3 years of experience with title searches and/or real estate closings
    • Strong independent research and analytical skills
    • Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and communication skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience working with Quickbooks and Qualia (or similar software).
    • Easily multitask by managing several real estate transactions at one time.
    • Comfortable receiving direction and being flexible with frequent change.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

    • 3 years professional experience in commercial and/or personal real estate closings
    • Paralegal certification preferred, but not required
    • Notary Public certification preferred

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $40,000.00 - $53,000.00 per year
