Position Overview
The Program Underwriter reviews accounts to determine acceptability within company underwriting authority. Completes underwriting and pricing of accepted accounts. If account is not within underwriting authority, prepares and submits it to the carrier; negotiates pricing and coverages. Initiates and assists sales staff with developing business. Serves as primary contact for agents and brokers in servicing and quoting accounts. Serves as interface between carrier and agent. Handles account problems with the agent, company and sales staff. Plays a support role with less experienced peers.

Primary Job Objective
The primary job objectives of this position are to grow the specific program book of business profitably, development of relationships with key program production sources in conjunction with team leaders and other team members.

Each employee is a vital member of our production teams, providing:

• Underwrite new and renewal business in accordance with insurance company guidelines
• Build and maintain positive relationships with agents, co-workers and carrier partners
• Submit risks to management and carriers that are outside granted authority
• Classify and rate risks in accordance with carrier guidelines
• Prepare quotes for new and renewal business
• Use Microsoft Office software, (e.g. Outlook, Word and Excel)

We are looking for people with:

• 3-5 Years Commercial Underwriting Experience
• College Degree preferred
• Knowledge of ISO Business Auto Rates and Rules preferred
• Excellent computer skills including typing proficiency, Microsoft Office proficiency with an emphasis in Excel spreadsheets
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• High-level of motivation
• Ability to prioritize important and pressing tasks
• Innate organizational skills, willingness to take on challenges, and focus on personal responsibility
