General Notes
The position is located in Port Aransas, TX. Only applicants authorized to work in the United States would be considered.
Purpose
Supervises groundskeeping crew at the University of Texas - Marine Science Institute and oversees the appearance of the landscape of the campus.
Responsibilities
-
Provides supervisory skills in planning, organizing, and directing the care and maintenance and beatification of UTMSI grounds.

Responsible for planning, assigning and supervising the control of weeds, pests and taking the necessary steps to control them. Prepares grounds for planting and preparing flower beds and irrigations of grounds.

Supervises, teaches, and assigns the cleaning, repairing and maintaining of grounds equipment such as the mowers, line trimmers, blowers, chain saws, and water pumps, and handles general light building maintenance.

Supervises 3 full-time employees, interviews and recommends suitable applicants for employment. Maintains employee time and attendance records to include evaluation and discipline.

Operates UTMSI vehicles to transport grounds equipment, grounds supplies, grounds personnel, appliances and furniture. Transports scrap metal to City recycling plant.

Assists other departments, such as custodial or maintenance, with moving furniture, appliances and supplies.

Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
-
High school diploma or GED.
-
Minimum of 3 years of experience managing a crew.
-
Must have a current driver's license.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience in landscaping maintenance work in a university, institutional, or commercial setting to include operating power mowers, cultivators, edgers, small sweepers, and other equipment used in gardening work.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
Salary Range
$38,000 depending on qualifications
