Being an Underwriting Supervisor analyzes various rate plans utilizing a company's claims history to determine the appropriate rate plan and benefits costs. Must be familiar with regulations at the federal, state and local level. Additionally, Underwriting Supervisor typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor. Physicians Mutual is seeking a candidate that is very well versed in Underwriting and demonstrates strong negotiation skills and leadership abilities. Underwrites Life & Health Insurance applications carrying the highest benefit amounts offered by the Company. Coordinates the development, implementation, and maintenance of PC or mainframe-based Life & Health systems to ensure compliance with state regulations and to document Underwriting practices and procedures. Provides underwriting advice or recommendations to various company personnel. Coordinates with various departments and TPAs to accomplish goals for developing and implementing procedural changes as needed. Represents Life & Health Underwriting Department at meetings involving compliance with state regulations and the development of new products, applications, and procedures.
