DESCRIPTION: This is a managerial position, and the candidate must have or be working towards AICP and NJ Professional Planner License (PP). Under the direction of the Planning Director, the Staff Planner will assist in formulating, implementing, modifying, and improving current and long-range planning projects, perform planning tasks and activities in the office or in the field and related work as required .

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in planning or related field required; master's degree or working towards a master's degree preferred; Experience with municipal planning, zoning, land use administration, and redevelopment planning a plus; Must have or be working toward AICP and NJ Professional Planner License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Thorough knowledge of current planning principles and professional planning practice within the State of New Jersey.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

• Proficient in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

• Knowledge of other planning software such as SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and related products preferred.

• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or with limited supervision.

• Team Player with the ability to work collaboratively with other staff and departments.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

§ Assists in reviewing development application materials for completeness, planning review and compliance review, and prepares clear, concise, and informative planning reports.

§ Creates various maps and shape files in GIS.

§ Assists the Planning Director and Zoning Officer in research, review and drafting of amendments to the Land Development Ordinance and Master Plan.

§ Works with the Office Assistant on compliance review management.

§ Gather planning data and prepare related planning studies and reports.

§ Assists in the response to OPRA requests in coordination with other office staff members.

§ Assists in Redevelopment Planning Project

§ Maintains Redevelopment task schedule.

§ Co-ordinates with other planning staff on planning tasks as directed by the Planning Director.

§ Prepares presentation documents.

§ Assists in reviewing Sales Map

§ Renders assistance to the public, applicants, outside agencies, municipal officials, and other parties interested in planning information or applications.

§ In the absence of the Planning Director, attend PB and/or ZB meetings. § Provides superior customer service to residents and other stakeholders.

§ Excellent organizational skills and record keeping.

§ Performs other duties as assigned by the Planning Director.
