Utilization Review Coordinator conducts utilization reviews to determine if patients are receiving care appropriate to illness or condition. Monitors patient charts and records to evaluate care concurrent with the patients treatment. Being a Utilization Review Coordinator reviews treatment plans and status of approvals from insurers. Collects and complies data as required and according to applicable policies and regulations. Additionally, Utilization Review Coordinator consults with physicians as needed. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor. Typically requires Registered Nurse(RN). The Utilization Review Coordinator contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. OVERVIEW: Utilization Review Coordinators will perform all functions of utilization review.
The coordinator functions as a clinical liaison between payers and facilities, providing
information and feedback to assist in optimum patient care reimbursement. Utilization Review
Coordinators collaborate and partner with Revenue Cycle Management to ensure all steps in the
process are managed effectively.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure all provided care is authorized within contractual timelines
- Initiate Precertification for patients entering a Landmark Recovery program applying
- Conduct Concurrent Reviews on patients being treated and ensures documentation meets
- Track patients across Landmark’s locations to ensure timely and accurate billing
- Implement Quality Control to ensure cohesiveness by communicating effectively with the
- Obtain authorization for all patients
- Lead retroactive appeals to obtain authorization for patients discharged
- Partner with other members of the Revenue Cycle Management Department to resolve all
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- None
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:
- Bachelor's in Mental health or related field, or AA or BS in Nursing
- UR experience preferred
- Novice understanding of ASAM criteria
- Knowledge of substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders
- Knowledge of common clinical interventions for SUD’s and co-occurring disorders
