Utilization Review Technician conducts utilization reviews to determine if patients are receiving care appropriate to illness or condition. Monitors patient charts and records to evaluate care concurrent with the patients treatment. Being a Utilization Review Technician reviews treatment plans and status of approvals from insurers. Collects and complies data as required and according to applicable policies and regulations. Additionally, Utilization Review Technician consults with nurses and physicians as needed. Position is non-RN. May require an associate degree or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. May require Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). The Utilization Review Technician gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Kansas City Regional Office is recruiting a positive professional to join our Utilization Review Team. This role involves working with a team to manage the determination of priority of service need regarding purchase-of-service programs and Medicaid waiver services for persons with DD/ID, and coordinating the utilization review process, as per Missouri state regulations. This position requires the ability to solve problems creatively, and to quickly and independently make and apply critical decisions in accordance with policies and procedures. Additionally, we are seeking someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills who will be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the individuals we serve, their families and caregivers, contracted service providers, co-workers, and the public.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Review annual and amended person centered service plans to determine the individual consumers’ service needs and level of priority to receive funding through the Regional Office.
    • Review plans for specific outcomes related to self-direction, employment, community inclusion, natural supports, and other factors specific to the enhancement of life quality for people with DD.
    • Complete Division documentation for priority of need determination for each consumer.
    • Identify service needs meeting eligibility for State Plan Medical Services, Senate Bill 40 County Board funds, or other state and/or local funding mechanisms.
    • Determine prior authorization of funding under Federal and State programs.
    • Provide recommendations to ensure efficient and effective delivery of supports and services based on review of consumer data.

    Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and two or more years of relevant experience.
