Performs responsible semi-skilled, technical and clerical work operating municipal parking facilities; working knowledge of the parking operations system. Supports the activities at the parking decks and surface lots in an effective and efficient manner that provides a high level of customer service resulting in a high level of customer satisfaction.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parking Facility Supervisor of the Transportation Department.
- Operate cashier terminal, including ability to process normal and exception transactions, and to understand all messages provided by the cashier terminal;
- Calculates, collects and counts revenue for parking fees;
- Processes credit card transactions;
- Operates light truck between parking decks;
- Operates computer to enter and retrieve information;
- Operates copy machine, printer and telephone;
- Answers customer inquiries regarding parking, provides information and directions;
- Assists Supervisor in the collection of parking receipts and other revenue taken in and deposited;
- Assists in the monitoring of video and audio equipment for security of parking facilities;
- Monitors any malfunctions of equipment or elevator and notifies supervisor or proper authorities;
- Reset ticket dispenser, fee computer, and barrier gate after a power failure;
- Performs maintenance duties as necessary;
- Assists in supervising the use of video and audio equipment for security monitoring of parking facilities;
- Checks for any malfunctions of equipment or elevator and notifies supervisor or proper authorities;
- Completes daily reports of validations and revenue, and prepares deposit slips;
- Directs traffic, assists motorists in parking and with vehicle problems;
- Collects monthly rental payments;
- Observes activity in and around the deck for secure, smooth, safe operation of facility and to ensure safety of patrons and their vehicles;
- Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
- Formal Education
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule and be able to fill in for other employees who are not able to work their schedule.
- Must be able to work alone and handle situations which may occur.
- Computer knowledge with competency in MS Excel and Word, knowledge of the parking operation systems and operation of necessary city systems.
- General office machines knowledge (computers, copiers, telephones, calculator, FAX, etc.).
- Must have strong interpersonal skills for working with customers, other attendants, and city employees.
- Must have ability to handle, record, and control cash funds and credit cards to ensure proper documentation and safeguarding.

Ability to read manuals, safety regulations, instructions, directions, fees, report information, validation reports, deposit slips, policies, ordinances, schedules, budget information and other documents relating to the job. Ability to write figures, memos, correspondence and make various reports. Ability to be conversant in voice and diction to participate in discussions with supervisor, employees, customers, and the public.
