Overview

Responsible for ultrasonic diagnostic examination and direct patient care.

Responsibilities

• Operate ultrasonic diagnostic equipment to examine various parts of the peripheral vascular system such as the arteries and veins of the neck, upper extremities, lower extremities and abdominal vessels (renal arteries, aorta, and vena cava).
• Perform non-imaging vascular studies (pulse volume recording and segmental pressures of upper and lower extremities).
• Interpret vascular studies as needed and gives a preliminary report to the requesting physicians and records these findings in the patient’s medical record.
• Prepare patients for ultrasonic examinations by determining necessary anatomical positioning of patients in accordance with departmental policy, which ensures high level of care.
• Set up and operate various types of ultrasonic equipment.  Adjusts and operates controls to obtain correct exposure in accordance with departmental regulations.
• Assist with maintenance of equipment to ensure proper working condition and requests repair service as required.
• Assist with maintenance of records of ultrasound examinations.
• Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Education:

• BA/BS in Vascular Technology or Certificate in Vascular Technology.

Experience:

• Minimum of one year clinical in direct patient care.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Satisfactory attendance at continuing Medical education conferences.
• Evidence of scholarly activities.

Licenses, Certifications:

• Certification in Vascular Technology required in absence of BA.

Physical Requirements:

• Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day. 
• Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 75 pounds.

• Ability to move and lift patient to properly position for testing.
