Vehicle Maintenance Manager assists with the acquisition, operations, and maintenance of the organization's fleet of motor vehicles. Assigns vehicles and drivers, prepares schedules, and oversees dispatch operations. Being a Vehicle Maintenance Manager evaluates, purchases, leases, and disposes of vehicles to maintain the fleet. Develops and maintains vendor and service provider relationships for fuel, maintenance, and other essential services. Additionally, Vehicle Maintenance Manager develops and implements safety, preventive maintenance, and accident prevention programs. Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and fleet-specific regulations, licensing, registration, and reporting requirements. May administer insurance policy coverage, negotiates agreements, and participate in claim resolution. Manages the fleet expense reporting and budgets. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Vehicle Maintenance Manager supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Vehicle Maintenance Manager typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     We are looking for an Engineering Maintenance Manager for our Mattoon, IL facility!

     

    Summary:

    Engineering Maintenance Manager is responsible for ensuring the proper functioning and upkeep of buildings, equipment, and manufacturing equipment within the organization. You will oversee a team of maintenance technicians and coordinate the maintenance activities to ensure high operational efficiency and adherence of safety standards. This will be a critical role in maintaining cross-functional collaboration and coordination between departments to achieve high levels of Safety, compliance, quality, and operational efficiency.

     

    Responsibilities

    Essential Duties:

    • Health and safety compliance: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations by implementing and enforcing safety guidelines and procedures. Conduct regular inspections to identify potential hazards and take corrective actions to mitigate risks.
    • Compliance: Adhere to internal code of conduct, uphold clear, ethical, and honest business communications. Maintain legal compliance and uphold commitment to a more sustainable future.
    • Planning and scheduling maintenance tasks: Develop maintenance schedules and plans for regular inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance activities. This involves analyzing equipment performance, identifying potential issues, and prioritizing tasks.
    • Project planning and execution: Work closely with stakeholders to define project scope, set goals, establish timelines, allocate resources, and monitor progress to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
    • Managing maintenance staff: Supervise a team of maintenance technicians, assign tasks, providing guidance, and monitor team performance. Ensure the team has the necessary skills and training to carry out their responsibilities effectively. This includes hiring and onboarding new team members, setting performance expectations, providing feedback and coaching, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
    • Budgeting and cost control: Develop and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently. Track expenses, negotiate contracts with suppliers, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
    • Equipment and facility management: Oversee the maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, and facilities, ensure all are in good working condition. This includes coordinating repairs, troubleshooting issues, and implementing preventive maintenance measures.
    • Vendor management: Liaise with external contractors, suppliers, and service providers to ensure timely and quality maintenance services are achieved. Oversee the selection and evaluation of vendors and negotiate contracts for maintenance services. Competitive tendering process adherence.
    • Documentation and record-keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment manuals, maintenance logs, and inventory. Generate structured reports on maintenance performance, costs, and equipment reliability.
    • Provide out-of-hours engineering support for site, relative to failure escalation plans impacting safety, quality, plant performance issues.

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience:

    • Degree/diploma with at least 5 years’ experience or significant experience within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
    • Technical expertise: Have a strong understanding of the equipment, systems, and technologies relevant to the manufacturing process. Be capable of troubleshooting and able to diagnose equipment issues.
    • Problem-solving: Be able to analyze problems, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions. Have a proactive approach to prevent recurring issues and optimize maintenance processes.
    • Knowledge of regulations: Ensure awareness of both local and industry health and safety regulations, building codes, and standards to ensure compliance and minimize risks.
    • Leadership and communication: Possess strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage and motivate the team. Clear communication is essential for delegating tasks, providing instructions, and coordinating with other departments.
    • Organizational skills: Good organization and the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines is essential. Maintaining accurate records, managing inventory, and tracking maintenance activities.

    Computer Skills:

    • Must be highly proficient in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point) and Outlook.

    Other Skills and Requirements:

    • High level of interpersonal skills.
    • Good to excellent spelling, grammar, and written communication skills.
    • Excellent oral communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
