Vehicle Maintenance Manager assists with the acquisition, operations, and maintenance of the organization's fleet of motor vehicles. Assigns vehicles and drivers, prepares schedules, and oversees dispatch operations. Being a Vehicle Maintenance Manager evaluates, purchases, leases, and disposes of vehicles to maintain the fleet. Develops and maintains vendor and service provider relationships for fuel, maintenance, and other essential services. Additionally, Vehicle Maintenance Manager develops and implements safety, preventive maintenance, and accident prevention programs. Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and fleet-specific regulations, licensing, registration, and reporting requirements. May administer insurance policy coverage, negotiates agreements, and participate in claim resolution. Manages the fleet expense reporting and budgets. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Vehicle Maintenance Manager supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Vehicle Maintenance Manager typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Purpose

    The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the management and coordination of all mechanical and electrical work in the facility.  Develop, manage and lead preventive and predictive maintenance programs and inventory tracking procedures.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead the maintenance team and provide support in a 24/7 operating environment
    • Ensure safety of all team members and contractors working in the plant or department by driving continuous improvement. This includes supporting all corporate safety programs; developing SOP’s, identifying and eliminating hazards, and enforcing all safety rules & regulations
    • Ensure compliance with all standards and programs (safety, environmental, quality, maintenance and manufacturing policies and procedures) within area of responsibility
    • Lead staff development
    • Forecast, develop, and manage the maintenance budget
    • Champion the utilization of EAM in their areas of responsibility
    • Work cooperatively with other departments to meet plant objectives, diagnose complex equipment problems, meet plant goals and manage department budget
    • Develop and lead preventative/predictive maintenance, including working with hydraulics, electrical, pneumatic, power transmissions, welding, and fabrication, vibration analysis, balancing, alignment and oil analysis
    • Manage and oversee parts and maintenance programs and inventory
    • Work closely with engineering on developing plans for engineering and improvements
    • Lead the Capex approval site for the plant
    • Initiate & lead in process improvement, cost reduction and capital project programs
    • Work closely with internal and external customers to accomplish plant objectives
    • Perform other duties as necessary

    Required Qualifications

    • Seven (7) plus years’ directly related maintenance management experience, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key duties of this position
    • Effective leadership skills
    • Knowledge of plant equipment, operations, predictive/preventative maintenance systems and effective project management practices
    • Demonstrated organizational, budgeting and computer skills
    • Ability to troubleshoot and repair machinery through the use of blue prints, P&ID schematics and root/cause failure analysis
    • Ability to work well with all levels of internal management, staff and vendors
    • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills 
    • Detail oriented with high level of accuracy 
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills
    • Must be proactive and have initiative
    • Ability to work in and maintain a highly functional team environment

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical)
    • Experience in wood products facilities
