Vehicle Maintenance Manager assists with the acquisition, operations, and maintenance of the organization's fleet of motor vehicles. Assigns vehicles and drivers, prepares schedules, and oversees dispatch operations. Being a Vehicle Maintenance Manager evaluates, purchases, leases, and disposes of vehicles to maintain the fleet. Develops and maintains vendor and service provider relationships for fuel, maintenance, and other essential services. Additionally, Vehicle Maintenance Manager develops and implements safety, preventive maintenance, and accident prevention programs. Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and fleet-specific regulations, licensing, registration, and reporting requirements. May administer insurance policy coverage, negotiates agreements, and participate in claim resolution. Manages the fleet expense reporting and budgets. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Vehicle Maintenance Manager supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Vehicle Maintenance Manager typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Summary/Objective

    The Maintenance Manager will provide leadership and direction to plant maintenance, facilities, buildings, utilities systems and project management. This position will stablish a culture that focuses on a sense of urgency and pride in work. The Maintenance Manager will direct, plan, control and monitor all aspects of the maintenance department. Key functions include, driving toward excellence in equipment reliability and reduce operating expenses. Responsible for the development, implementation, and day to day supervision of maintenance systems and processes.

    The successful individual must have a “safety-first” and hands-on mindset, be a self-motivated partner supporting production operations, be committed to achieving minimal downtime and drive continuous improvement throughout the organization. The Maintenance Manager will recognize the need for improvements and effectively manages implementation of change. Promotes an environment for open and timely communication and actively enlists input from others and responds to others respectfully.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Lead a zero-loss culture, assuring a safe working environment and compliance with all OSHA, EHS and Food Safety Standards.
    • Promote, and foster Palmer Candy culture, values and principles.
    • Build a strong, achievement-oriented team by using the appropriate mix of hiring, delegation, training, monitoring, feedback, development, coaching, motivation, mentoring, and employee retention techniques.
    • Direct and coordinate the activities of the maintenance department to install and maintain equipment to achieve maintenance targets including safety, OEE, and cost.
    • Inspect conditions of buildings, equipment, and grounds, and recommends improvements in the facilities to ensure that needs are met.
    • Oversees technical storeroom activities to ensure acceptable inventory level of critical spare parts and supplies.
    • Manage, train and support Team Members to improve troubleshooting, set-up and changeover times.
    • Recommends capital expenditures for acquisition of new equipment to improve efficiencies.
    • Review staffing and make recommendations for more efficient labor usage, have a back-up plan for maintenance coverage.
    • Ensure all machinery is up to working standards through proper preventive, corrective and predictive systems.
    • Manages maintenance spending to control cost including over time, order supplies, parts and equipment that is needed for the operation.
    • Develop and/or maintain Key Performance Indicators for tracking and reporting the performance of the maintenance department.
    • Partner with Quality Assurance and Production to establish and execute actions to improve quality.
    • Focus on continuous improvement opportunities regarding human safety, food safety, quality, development of staff, productivity, packaging processes, equipment design and layout.
    • Effectively develop and manage a departmental budget, develop and implement procedures to ensure spare parts availability and assets are maintained appropriately.
    • Review maintenance downtime and complete a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for downtime events causing significant disruptions in Operations.
    • Schedule, supervise and/or perform repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous production in operations.
    • Review production, maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities, review action items to determine work priorities.
    • Ensure that machinery and equipment adhere to federal and state safety standard, serve on the plant safety committees.
    • Partner with Operations Departments to review equipment maintenance issues with overall goal to maintain or exceed established OEE rates. Develop maintenance plans to resolve open issues.
    • Take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the Food Safety Management System and communicate to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the Food Safety Management Systems, GMP’s, testing, documentation and required training.
    • Conduct presentations and formal training programs for both maintenance and production Team Members.
    • Establish group and individual accountabilities throughout all the department.
    • Prepares an annual Operating Expense Budget and monthly forecast. Monitors ongoing performance against the budget. Manage spending against budget.
    • Ability to interact with all functions within the plant. Ability to interact with vendors, suppliers, and any other external plant support services.
    • Ability to consistently maintain positive client relationships.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Skill/Experience Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related field desirable.
    • 5 years relevant experience in maintenance in a leadership role.
    • Understanding of PLC, HVAC systems and logic controls.
    • Demonstrated leadership of safety initiatives that drive a zero injury culture.
    • Excellent communication skills interacting with all levels of staff, including hourly workforce and senior management.
    • Demonstrated success with project management, including developing capital plans and managing from planning to completion.
    • Proficiency in MS Office required.
    • Working knowledge of RedZone System is preferred but not required.
    • Experience in CMMS implementation.
    • AutoCAD experience preferred but not required.
