Furniture Technician apprenticeship requires the completion of a 52-week training course. Apprentices are required to pass a performance-based practical exam at the end of each training cycle. Shop refinishing personnel must be qualified to troubleshoot, problem solve, rebuild, refinish, touch-up and repair any and all merchandise that does not meet the quality standards for delivery or pick-up by the company’s customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Ability to discern color and color match
• General knowledge of wood/upholstery/leather repair techniques to include knowledge or supplies needed for said repairs
• Proficiency with specialty equipment such as – band saws, table saws, steamer, spray booth
• Skills and ability to cut glass
• Ability to read and comprehend assembly instructions with ability to train others
• Must be available to work each scheduled shift and should report to work on time.

• Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to correct storage locations.
• Stack merchandise carefully and efficiently in appropriate bins to prevent damage.
• Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of their towmotor.
• Perform furniture handler and CPU duties as needed in addition to primary towmotor responsibilities.

• Adhere to all safety and security regulations and report concerns to management.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Identify and repair any defects found in merchandise using proper furniture techniques that will restore product to vendor specifications. To include but not limited to: use of fillers, burn-ins, fabrication, color matching and replacement with pigments and stains, structural repairs and installation of replacement parts.
• Proficiency in the spray application of finishes, sealers and toners to case goods.
• Must provide the highest level of customer service.
• Understand and adhere to Company Policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Policy and Procedures manual
• Any other duties or responsibilities as required by management

SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES/ SKILLS: Good sound judgment and decision making abilities are required. Communication skills both oral and written are essential. Must be able to identify and match colors. Must be able to identify basic tools

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, employees must be able to stoop, stretch and bend in order to reach repair areas in case goods. Ability to move furniture up to 75 lbs alone and up to 150 lbs with assistance.

TOOLS OR EQUIPMENT USED ON THE JOB: Assortment of specialized shop tools, power tools and painting supplies.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

• Education: High school or vocational school.
• Experience: Ability to successfully complete the Furniture Tech Apprenticeship Program if no prior experience.

• Skills: Must be able to see color accurately, read, do simple math and write legibly. Must possess a high degree of integrity and pride. High school diploma or GED, with transcript. Must score 70 percent or higher on basic math test. Basic computer skills
