Position: Assistant Engineer (Gulf Venture)
Reports To: Engineer
Worksite: Onboard an Articulated Tug and Barge (ATB) Unit.
Home Port: Located in Gretna, Louisiana.
Work Schedule: 21 days on / 21 days off
Essential Job Duties:
- Serve asan Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch.
- Operate, assess, maintain, and clean the vessel’s engineering systems and spaces, including main propulsion, power generation and management systems, vessel control systems, automation systems, liquid cargo transfer systems, fuel management systems, bilge and ballast systems, firefighting systems, refrigeration and HVAC systems, potable water, grey water and sewage systems, communication and electronic navigation systems, deck machinery, and the like.
- Complete andmaintainengine room documents.
- Perform routine engine room maintenance and housekeeping, including preventative maintenance, underway repairs, checking oil, changing filters, and the like.
- Track and report on the consumption of consumables, including fuel, water, lubes, hydraulic oils, and engineering spare parts and supplies.
- Train,direct,and assess engine room personnel, includingQMEDs,Oilers, other Engineers, and the like.
- Perform basic first aid as needed.
- Monitorandensurethe vessel'sseaworthiness.
- Use a computer and various computer programs.
- Complete and submit various forms of paperwork.
- Work, communicate, and interface with crewmembers, customers, contractors, office personnel, inspectors, auditors, government agencies, and other entities and people, some of which may speak a foreign language.
- Perform drills.
- Handle emergencies.
- Conduct Job Safety Analysis’ (JSA).
- Undertake action to ensure the overall safety and protection of people, property, and the environment.
- Report incidents, including illnesses, injuries, property damage, and pollution.
- Inspect tug, barges, appurtenances, and other equipment, especially engine room and mechanical equipment and systems.
- Maintain cleanliness of tug, barges, appurtenances, and other equipment.
- Maintain tug, barges, appurtenances, and other equipment in good working order and condition.
- Maintain safe, sanitary living and working conditions.
- Communicate via a VHF radio.
- Cook and prepare meals.
- Troubleshoot problems.
- Live and work in close quarters onboard a vessel in harsh weather conditions for weeks at a time.
- Adhere to and comply with company policies and all applicable laws, rules, and regulations, including United States Coast Guard Regulations, the company's Safety Management System (SMS), and the vessel's Certificate of Inspection (COI).
- Perform routine duties as directed by vessel's Master and Chief Engineer.
- Adhere to the orders of the vessel's Master and Chief Engineer.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma (or its Equivalent).
- Reliable Transportation to and from Work.
- Basic Computer Skills.
- Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Valid (STCW and National) United States Coast Guard Medical Certificate.
- Valid Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) withat leastthe following Endorsements (or Equivalent Certificates):
- 3rd Assistant Engineerof a Motor Vessel of at least 5150 Horsepower.
- Officer in Charge of Engineering Watch (OICEW).
- Basic Training.
- Basic and Advanced Firefighting.
- Medical First-Aid Provider.
- Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties.
- Engine Room Resource Management.
- Leadership and Managerial Skills.
- Management of Electrical and Electronic Control Equipment.
