Position Overview
Summer Venture in Business is a pre-college summer academy housed in the University of Kansas School of Business for underrepresented students and/or potential first-generation college students in high school who are interested in business. Applicants are rising 10th-, 11th- and 12th-grade students. All participants will receive a scholarship that covers the general cost of the program and the application process for attendees is competitive. The goal of this six-day program is to familiarize high school students with aspects of the college experience in and out of the classroom. It will serve as a pipeline program for students to access academic resources and opportunities at KU. In addition to exposing participants to business topics, Summer Venture aims to equip students with the tools and knowledge for applying to the university, succeeding in college, and prospering in their careers.
SVB Mentors will need to be available beginning May 1, 2034, through the end of the Summer Venture in Business program ending on July 19th, 2024. Program sessions are from Sunday, June 9th through Friday, June 14th, 2024, and Sunday, July 14th through Friday, July 19th, 2024. Mentors will be expected to stay in campus housing and accompany participants to all SVB activities. All housing expenses and meals during the SVB program will be provided by the KU School of Business Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging office.
SVB Mentors will be paid $15/hour. Meals and housing costs during the SVB event are provided by the program. Mentors in the KU School of Business will also receive e-points that will count towards graduation.
Job Description
- assist with the planning and execution of Summer Venture in Business activities

supervise up to 15 program participants

serve as leader to program participants by providing information on college life, the transition from high school to college, as well as experiences as a KU student

assist with administrative tasks associated with the delivery of the Summer Venture in Business program

contact SVB applicants to confirm their attendance

serve on program panels about their experience as KU students

lead students in evening activities and the completion of program projects
Required Qualifications
- KU Student must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours each semester during the academic year. Enrollment of one (1) hour during the summer session is required if the student was not enrolled in the previous spring or is not pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall term

Work Schedule
