JOB SUMMARY:
At Largo Veterinary Hospital, we take extreme pride in the thoughtful and personalized service we offer to every patient and their owner. The main function of the veterinary assistant is routine restraint, patient husbandry, on-site cleanliness, and minor maintenance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide compassionate care to the animals staying with us.
2. Walk all dogs in the hospital three times per day.
3. Feed and water animals according to doctor directive.
4. Administer medications to those animals that require medications during the day record medication instructions on the boarding form.
5. Cleans and disinfects cages, runs as needed using hoses and spray bottles of disinfectant. Uses a squeegee to remove excess water.
6. Picks up soiled bedding and moves it to laundry area and places clean bedding in with animals daily.
7. Cleans and disinfects all food and water bowls.
8. Cleans cat litter boxes.
9. Records and labels all belongings.
10. Walks through the kennel areas checking each animal individually for any abnormal activity such as vomiting, diarrhea, or blood in the cage or run. Reports all abnormal activity to doctor and/or technicians and makes a note on the board so the animal can be examined.
11. Prepare animals for discharge, for example bathing or brushing.
12. Recognizes emergency situations, enlisting the aid of doctor and technicians.
13. Restrains animals as needed.
14. Assists doctor, technicians and receptionists in all duties of the hospital.
15. Provides friendly interaction with clients and animals. Ensures customer satisfaction.
16. General policing of yard for trash and fecal material.
17. Operates washer and dryer to clean kennel bedding and hospital laundry.
18. Keeps hospital bedding organized.
19. Keep kennel, bathing area, kitchen, and bathrooms clean ie: walls, floors, drains, dishes, cages.
20. Maintains cleanliness of entire hospital.
21. Nightly: empty all trashcans. Take trash out to dumpster. Break down boxes and take to recycling dumpster. 22. Vacuum entire hospital and mop floors by moving all objects on the floors.
23. Nightly stocking of all areas according to checklists.
Mandatory Requirements:
Employees must have good oral and written communication skills including the ability to listen, talk, write, type, and otherwise communicate with professionalism and tact. Proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation are expected.

Largo Veterinary Hospital is an AAHA accredited, certified drug free workplace. All candidates are required to pass a pre-hire urine drug screening prior to employment.
Largo Veterinary Hospital is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm, and Saturdays from 7:30am to 12:00pm. We may seek Thursday operational hours in the near future; the ideal candidate has a flexible schedule.
