Veterinary Assistant prepares treatment room for examination of animals; restrains animals during examination, treatment, or inoculation. Administers injections, performs venipunctures, applies wound dressings, cleans teeth, and takes vital signs of animal. Being a Veterinary Assistant requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. May be required to be certified/licensed. Additionally, Veterinary Assistant is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision of a veterinarian. We are searching for a veterinary technician and/or a veterinary assistant. We are a small, but busy, mixed animal practice located in the heart of Topeka. We work together as a team and look forward to adding you to the team. These positions will be for up to four days per week and at least one Saturday per month. Applicants should:
--Be a graduate of a Veterinary Technician program OR be enrolled in a Veterinary Technician program OR have had Veterinary Assistance experience.
--Be at least 18 years old with high school diploma or equivalent.
--Be able to communicate well in both verbal and written form.
--Be able to learn quickly and take direction well.
--Be detail oriented and work well under pressure.
--Be self motivated and able to multi task.
--Have a pleasant personality and work effectively as part of a team.
--Have basic computer and typing skills.
--Strive to do their best and have a desire to continue learning and growing both professionally and personally.
--Be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted.
--Genuinely enjoy working with animals, and be able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill, fractious or in pain.
--Be comfortable with people and be able to provide excellent customer care.
Pay is negotiable according to experience.
