Veterinary Assistant prepares treatment room for examination of animals; restrains animals during examination, treatment, or inoculation. Administers injections, performs venipunctures, applies wound dressings, cleans teeth, and takes vital signs of animal. Being a Veterinary Assistant requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. May be required to be certified/licensed. Additionally, Veterinary Assistant is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision of a veterinarian. Our Family Vet is looking for prospective team members by hiring individuals that enjoy the human-animal bond, enjoying helping people with their pets and participating in teamwork to provide quality veterinary medicine to our clients.Our Family Vet is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Clinical Care team.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Checks patient medical records for past histories, enters in computer and files.
- Takes medical histories and vital signs of patients.
- Properly restrain and monitors animals.
- Preps animals for exams
- Prepping and taking X-rays
- Maintains client educational material and knowledgably communicates this information to clients.
- Maintains cleanliness of the facility and equipment.
- Takes, processes and logs authorized prescription refills in-house.
- Monitoring hospital patients and logging vital signs.
- Administering medications to patients as ordered by the veterinarian.
- Collects and performs diagnostic testing such as drawing blood, fecals, snap test.
- Assist doctor with exams, treatments, and client education.
- Using and maintaining lab equipment
- Assisting the doctor during exams, treatments, and anesthesia procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Availability: Week Days, Weekend RotationTravel: Must be willing to travel between Bullard and Jacksonville facilities as scheduled/needed.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The employee must be able to multi-task. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.- Strong communication skills, compassion, listening skills and must be able to read and write.
- High standards of customer service
- Physical stamina to stand, bend stoop, twist for increased amounts of time.
- Lift up to 40lbs and 100lbs with assistance.
- Critical thinking, problem solving/decision making, time management and organization skills.
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. We are open and willing to train the right candidate.
