Veterinary Assistant prepares treatment room for examination of animals; restrains animals during examination, treatment, or inoculation. Administers injections, performs venipunctures, applies wound dressings, cleans teeth, and takes vital signs of animal. Being a Veterinary Assistant requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. May be required to be certified/licensed. Additionally, Veterinary Assistant is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision of a veterinarian. This job operates in a temperature-controlled medical clinic environment. The employee may be exposed to mild X-ray radiation and infectious animal diseases such as parvovirus, hookworm, roundworm, salmonella, and giardia can be passed from dog to human through licking. Exposure to high noise levels due to barking dogs and machinery. Potential for being bitten or scratched while tending to animals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets. The employee is required to stand and use both hands for typing for extended periods of time; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl periodically. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
POSITION TYPE AND HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Sunday thru Saturday, 3 days at 12 hours a shift. Long hours, evening and weekends are required as job duties demand.
