Veterinary Assistant prepares treatment room for examination of animals; restrains animals during examination, treatment, or inoculation. Administers injections, performs venipunctures, applies wound dressings, cleans teeth, and takes vital signs of animal. Being a Veterinary Assistant requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. May be required to be certified/licensed. Additionally, Veterinary Assistant is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision of a veterinarian. Job Descriptions:
1. Perform basic animal restraint.
2. Treat and care for hospitalized patients based on doctor’s instructions. Administer both oral and injectable medications.
3. Learn, understand, and explain basic medical/surgical procedures.
4. Work closely with and assist doctors as needed.
5. Kennel duties - Basic animal care, let dogs out, provide food/water, clean kennels, clean bowls/dishes and Bathe animals
