  • If you’re a videographer at the city of Goodyear, you are passionate about using video to tell a story, excited to learn new video techniques and not afraid to tap into a mix of equipment to get the most creative shots for your shoot. You must be a self-starter and comfortable with juggling multiple projects at a time. This means thoughtfully managing projects with varying deadlines from start to finish. 


    The videos produced in this role will be shared on a variety of platforms, including social media, the website, internally with employees and externally with news media. The ideal candidate thrives on working in a collaborative team environment and likes receiving regular feedback.     Shooting/Editing:

    You know your way around a professional-grade camera and how to quickly move between various manual settings depending on what environment you’re shooting in. You also know what equipment needs you have depending on the shoot and are experienced in setting up lights, using live equipment for social media, Osmos, GoPros, DSLR cameras, microphones and more. You also have a passion for editing, and can do so on Adobe Premiere, and that’s where your vision comes to life. Continuing the creative process while editing is a must – a desire to elevate your video and make it pop. You also understand how to shoot and edit on a phone under deadline for the various online platforms.     

     

    Producer:

    Your role would include taking the initiative to find unique story ideas and execute them. You’re not afraid to direct and manage interview subjects, including those in leadership positions, to ensure authenticity. You know how to engage with your on-camera subjects to make them comfortable and what kinds of interview questions to ask to get what you need, all while managing equipment. 

     

    Idea Generator:

    The ideal candidate will help come up with creative video content ideas on a weekly basis and execute quickly. Developing unique content will be part of your daily thought process, and you’ll be expected to work with the team to execute campaigns through multiple communication channels.

     

    Communication:

    Being able to communicate well with your teammates, city management and elected officials is imperative. The ideal candidate understands the importance of being responsive on a daily basis with emails and communication, in general. Being able to respond to social media comments appropriately and with good written communication skills is a plus.

     

    Experience/Misc.:

    Having a bachelor's degree in videography or a related field is preferred. A minimum of two years as a professional videographer is required.  

    Schedule flexibility is important. Working outside of business hours may at times be required. This position reports to the Lead Videographer. Regular telecommuting may be an option after employee successfully completes probationary period.

    • Produces original video content that is in alignment with the department’s digital content strategy. The produced video content is expected to be made available with short turnaround times, from time to time, on the city’s digital platforms (website, social media, etc.) and pushed to local and national media, if applicable.
    • Produces video content, including live shots, for special projects, presentations, campaigns or promotions to assist other departments and divisions with their strategic plans. 
    • Operates all audio and video equipment, including video cameras, microphones, lighting equipment, green screen, editing/post production software, etc. 
    • Operates live stream of City Council meetings, work sessions, planning and zoning commission meetings and other public meetings.
    • Assists in posting messaging, photos and video content on the City’s social media platforms.
    • Assists in setup of audio/visual needs for meetings or press events.
    • Formal Education/Knowledge: Bachelor's degree in videography or related field.
    • Experience:  Minimum of two years of experience in a related field.
    • Certifications and Other Requirements:  Valid Driver’s License.
    • Reading:   Work requires the ability to read general correspondence, memorandums, reports, and letters at a college level.
    • Math:   Minimal 
    • Writing:   Work requires the ability to write correspondence, memorandums, and reports at a college level.
    • Managerial:  Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others 
    • Budget Responsibility:   Has no budgetary responsibility.
    • Policy/Decision Making:  Moderate - The employee normally performs the duty assignment according to his or her own judgment, requesting supervisory assistance only when necessary. Projects and daily work are managed with little oversight, however special assignments and significant work products may be reviewed upon completion. Typically positions in this category are supervisor to mid-management jobs.
    • Technical Skills:  Broad Application - Work requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
    • Interpersonal/Human Relations Skills:  Moderate - In addition to the sharing of information, interactions at this level may also include providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies/procedures.  In many of the interactions, contacts may require the consideration of different points of view to reach agreement.  Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas.
    • Independently shoot, including live shots, produce and edit videos on a weekly basis and publish content to the city’s digital platforms (website, social media, etc.).
    • Contribute to the weekly content calendar by presenting at least two creative and original ideas a week and executing them in a timely manner.
    • Set up shoots and interviews by making phone calls, sending emails and doing research.
    • Operate and maintain all audio and video equipment, including video cameras, microphones, lighting equipment, green screen, editing/postproduction software, etc. 
    • Set up and operate live stream of after-hours city council meetings, work sessions, planning and zoning commission meetings and other public meetings by executing the live stream, and as-needed, operating production switchers and cameras.
    • Assist in posting messaging, photos and video content on the city’s social media platforms.
    • Assist in setup of audio/visual needs for meetings or press events.
    • Display the highest level of professionalism and communication skills to be able to work with city management and elected officials.
