Visitor Research Analyst - Museum evaluates and researches visitor experiences, learning, exhibition, program etc. Utilizes findings to inform appropriate exhibit and improve museum program development. Prepares visitors reports and technical papers to suggest enhanced innovative learning environments for museum. Being a Visitor Research Analyst - Museum requires a master's degree of social science or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or a manager. The Visitor Research Analyst - Museum gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.   • The National WWII Museum in New Orleans is now seeking the position of Research Fellow. The Research Fellow offers a unique post-doctoral educational and professional development opportunity for a high-potential individual to be a part of the intellectual life of the Institute for the Study of War and Democracy at The National WWII Museum. Fellows will engage in Museum and Institute activities, teach in the Institute’s higher education programs, perform research and writing functions for the Institute’s Historical Research Services, take part in planning for author events, symposia and conferences and represent the Museum to the scholarly community at professional and academic conferences.

    The Research Fellowship term is 12 months.

    This position reports to the Executive Director, Jenny Craig Institute for the Study of War and Democracy.

    Responsibilities:

    • Participate in Institute Public Programming by interviewing speakers, taking part in panels and discussions
    • Contribute to the Institute’s higher education programs and teach in the MA in World War II Studies conducted in partnership with the Arizona State University
    • Produce a scholarly article on WWII based on original research
    • Assist our WWII Research Service team in the production of our monographs on individual WWII veterans’ stories
    • Attend and participate in seminars, lectures and presentations
    • Contribute content to the Museum and the Institute’s website
    • Support and play an active role in the production and promotion of Museum content and projects
    • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive Director of the Jenny Craig Institute and the Institute’s Senior Historian.

    Qualifications:

    • Applicants must hold a doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in History or a related field. Applicants will typically have received their graduate degree within the last 4 years.
    • Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to research and career goals that are consistent with the Institute for the Study of War and Democracy, and, more broadly, The National WWII Museum.
    • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills and abilities – verbal, written, and computer.
    • Ability to travel to attend conference, meetings sponsored by associations or industries, to meet clients or representatives of potential clients, and to participate in overseas programs.
    • Willingness to work a flexible schedule that goes beyond a 40 hour week including some weekends and evenings.
    • Ability to push, pull, and lift weights up to 20 pounds. May require prolonged standing and/or walking during which time objects are transported. May require bending, squatting, or reaching and occasional use of equipment.
