Volunteer Coordinator supervises and leads the daily undertakings of a volunteer program to attract, inspire, train, and deploy volunteers. Leads the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of volunteer workers. Being a Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for training and educating volunteers. Motivates and inspires volunteers to encourage teamwork. Additionally, Volunteer Coordinator evaluates and reviews volunteer schedules and makes adjustments as necessary. Ensures that the activities of the volunteer workers meet the needs of the organization. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Volunteer Coordinator supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. This is technical work in providing advanced life support emergency medical services care for a municipal emergency medical service department. Work involves responsibility for providing clinical care at the paramedic level on an ambulance, including functioning as crew leader for the assigned crew on the ambulance. Responsible for the performance of the crew at all times during assigned shifts. Work is performed under actual and/or administrative direction of the EMS Director, EMS Operations Manager, EMS Shift Officers, and Medical Directors, and is reviewed through direct observation, reports and evaluation.

Work is frequently performed indoors at the city safety center or at other office locations, and frequently outdoors in the field at emergency response locations. Work requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing stairs, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 125 pounds, reaching with hands and arms in front of body and overhead, using hands and fingers to operate EMS vehicles, equipment, radios and computers. Work requires sufficient strength and agility to react quickly and effectively in emergency situations. Work occasionally exposes employee to body fluids, fumes, airborne particles, loud noise, toxic and caustic chemicals, extreme weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
