Workdays & Hours: This position requires the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. This is a Full-Time position working 40 hours a week. This position may require you to travel to various locations.

A Volunteer Coordinator position is available with The City of Fort Worth Code Compliance Department. The position will oversee and coordinate the volunteer service program for the Fort Worth Animal Care and Control division. Volunteers play a crucial role for Fort Worth Animal Care and Control. They provide valuable resources by assisting staff in numerous amounts of tasks including animal care, animal enrichment and adoption events. The selected individual must be an effective communicator who is able to demonstrate diplomacy, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills while working with a culturally and ethnically diverse staff, volunteer, and community base.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business Administration, Public Administration, Marketing, Humanities, Psychology, Public Relations, or related field.
• Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in volunteer service programs or related fields.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in animal control, animal shelter settings and animal handling.
• Experience in conducting outreach at community events to recruit a diverse pool of volunteers.
• Experience in identifying volunteer projects through a need’s assessment.
• Experience with developing and/or administering a volunteer program targeting animal welfare, neighborhood initiatives and improvement, and public health.
• Experience organizing and implementing special events.

The Volunteer Coordinator job responsibilities include:

• Assess organizational needs for volunteer services and plan for recruitment.
• Develop and implement a volunteer recruitment plan; maintain continuous recruitment for volunteers through various sources.
• Recruit, screen and refer volunteers for appropriate assignments; develop and conduct in-service training programs; prepare and maintain procedural and training manuals.
• Prepare administrative and statistical reports.
• Maintain records and informational files regarding volunteers.
• Assist in budget preparation and forecast needed funds to operate volunteer recruitment and training.
• build relationships with volunteers to help improve retention and help continue building a positive atmosphere.
