Leads the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of volunteer workers. Being a Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for training and educating volunteers. Motivates and inspires volunteers to encourage teamwork. Additionally, Volunteer Coordinator evaluates and reviews volunteer schedules and makes adjustments as necessary. Ensures that the activities of the volunteer workers meet the needs of the organization. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Volunteer Program Specialist
Overview of Job:
The volunteer program coordinator is for implementing a robust volunteer program that focuses.
This position works collaboratively as part of the programs teams to identify volunteer
opportunities, plan recruitment activities, develop and facilitate training and manage volunteers.
In addition, the volunteer program coordinator strives for customer service excellence in all
volunteer interactions.
Success Criteria; Essential Skills:
Forecast opportunities for volunteers to enhance the work of the LASPCA programs,
services and events.
Handle all administrative functions associated with the volunteer program including
maintenance of the volunteer management database, screening of applications.
Recruit volunteers whose unique skill sets and interests align with our organizations’,
Arrange logistics for volunteer groups who would like to partner with the LASPCA.
Identify pain points for both volunteers and staff and recommend solutions to ensure a
positive experience for all parties;
Solicit regular feedback from both volunteers and staff to drive volunteer engagement
and positive experience;
Communicate relevant policy/safety changes and all available volunteer opportunities;
Establish partnerships with local service groups, universities, and businesses to drive
group service program registrations;
Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
GED or high School diploma
2 years customer service or retail experience
Spanish language candidates preferred (sign-on bonus provided for this additional skill)
Minimum Qualifications, Skills & Knowledge:
Must be at least 24 years old and able to meet the auto insurance driving requirements
Must be able to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment substance
screening
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Highly competent in Microsoft Office including Word, Power Point and Excel
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends. Able to serve as a
24-hour response team member to mobilize volunteers during weather events.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds; push and pull heavy objects; bend, twist, reach;
perform strenuous physical activities including frequent walking and running, standing,
bending, and stooping.
Should not be allergic to animals or nuts; must be able to work around all animals and nut
products.
Must be able to work around industrial strength cleaners and disinfectants.
