Volunteer Coordinator supervises and leads the daily undertakings of a volunteer program to attract, inspire, train, and deploy volunteers. Leads the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of volunteer workers. Being a Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for training and educating volunteers. Motivates and inspires volunteers to encourage teamwork. Additionally, Volunteer Coordinator evaluates and reviews volunteer schedules and makes adjustments as necessary. Ensures that the activities of the volunteer workers meet the needs of the organization. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Volunteer Coordinator supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. Position Summary:
The Volunteer Services Department supports Met Councils greater mission of delivering best-in-class social services to New York Citys most vulnerable populations with dignity and respect. Our volunteers and donors provide programmatic support to expand Met Councils core services, all under the banner of service learning, poverty education, community outreach, engagement, and philanthropy. The agency benefits from the support of volunteers and donors who fulfill mission-driven critical needs; while volunteers and donors benefit from meaningful, informative service experiences that provide tangible support to our agency, our clients, and the greater New York City community. The Volunteer Coordinator supports the departments Senior Director on the recruitment, placement, training, management, departure, and tracking of volunteers and donors. The Volunteer Coordinator will work to further Met Councils impact on alleviating poverty in NYC by energizing volunteers and donors through both direct and indirect service and giving. The role will require the coordinator to split their time and be stationed at both the Brooklyn Hub (Boro Park, Brooklyn) and Met Council Headquarters (Financial District).
