Volunteer Coordinator supervises and leads the daily undertakings of a volunteer program to attract, inspire, train, and deploy volunteers. Leads the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of volunteer workers. Being a Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for training and educating volunteers. Motivates and inspires volunteers to encourage teamwork. Additionally, Volunteer Coordinator evaluates and reviews volunteer schedules and makes adjustments as necessary. Ensures that the activities of the volunteer workers meet the needs of the organization. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Volunteer Coordinator supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. This position is primarily responsible for the recruitment, screening and training of volunteers to become legal guardians for incapacitated adults that have no one else to serve in this role, matching accepted volunteers and with people in need of guardianship and monitoring and supporting the volunteers in carrying out their guardianship responsibilities.
This person is part of a new expansion program focusing on incapacitated people that have been victims of abuse/exploitation and/or are referred from local hospitals. Initial responsibilities will be more focused on marketing and outreach to potential volunteers.
This is a hybrid position with hours spent remote, in the community and in the Somerville office. The ideal candidate will work well independently as well as part of a team.
Responsibilities
· Recruit prospective volunteers though a variety of outreach methods to become legal guardians of incapacitated adults.
· Screen prospective volunteers through interviews, background check, and reference checks.
· Train and educate volunteers on the legal responsibilities of being a legal guardian.
Facilitate access to trauma related and other training to supplement core training curriculum.
· Assist in screening referred incapacitated people (IP) for services
· Select volunteer to serve as guardians to IP’s in a legal guardianship relationship
· Support volunteer and monitor guardianship, ensuring compliance with program obligations, legal requirements, and program and court required reporting.
· Connect guardians to agency and community resources that will assist them in their responsibilities/benefit their IP.
· Document all contacts and activities.
· Plan and implement volunteer recognition and retention activities.
· Participate in community education and outreach activities.
· Attend all court hearings with the volunteer.
· Facilitate the smooth transition of responsibilities from a resigning guardian to the successor guardian.
· Complete board and funding reports as needed.
· Other responsibilities as assigned.
Required Education, Experience and/or Skills:
· Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or other human service field preferred. Marketing experience a plus. Relevant experience may be substituted year-for-year for education.
· At least one year of experience working with volunteers and/or experience in serving vulnerable populations, such as those with dementia and/or people with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
· Understanding of legal guardianship and familiarity with local long-term housing and other resources for incapacitated individuals helpful.
· Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel.
· Strong verbal communication skills, ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
· Understanding of the right to client dignity, maximizing autonomy, and maintaining confidentiality.
· Ability to travel locally within New Jersey; must have valid NJ driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
