This is technical work in providing advanced life support emergency medical services care for a municipal emergency medical service department. Work involves responsibility for providing clinical care at the paramedic level on an ambulance, including functioning as crew leader for the assigned crew on the ambulance. Responsible for the performance of the crew at all times during assigned shifts. Work is performed under actual and/or administrative direction of the EMS Director, EMS Operations Manager, EMS Shift Officers, and Medical Directors, and is reviewed through direct observation, reports and evaluation.

Work is frequently performed indoors at the city safety center or at other office locations, and frequently outdoors in the field at emergency response locations. Work requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing stairs, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 125 pounds, reaching with hands and arms in front of body and overhead, using hands and fingers to operate EMS vehicles, equipment, radios and computers. Work requires sufficient strength and agility to react quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
