    Position Summary:

    The Volunteer Services Assistant is responsible for numerous aspects of the volunteer program. Providing critical assistance in the maintenance of current programming and the development and execution of new initiatives, the Volunteer Services Assistant employs different communication strategies to effectively reach and engage the volunteer community, participates in public facing forums, and maintains systems to ensure information is up-to-date and accurate. The Volunteer Services Assistant works with other members of the Volunteer Services team to achieve the parallel goals of broadening the volunteer base and deepening volunteer impact.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Interact and communicate with colleagues, volunteers, and the public in a manner that advances a culture of positivity, professionalism, trust, transparency, empathy, and excellence at Joybound.
    • Working with the Volunteer Services Manager, develop and execute new initiatives elevating the volunteer experience.
    • Monitor and assess the volunteer needs for weekly scheduling of recurring and stand-alone shifts; recruit replacements when shifts are open, including last-minute department requests for volunteers.
    • Educate community members on how they can get involved with Joybound People & Pets through volunteering, fostering, adoptions, etc.
    • Work seamlessly and respectfully with staff and volunteers to assure each program and event is staffed to provide appropriate expertise.
    • Prepare accurate records and reports on the goals of the volunteer programs.
    • Assist in the organization of special events, including donor/volunteer appreciation events and other initiatives. Attendance at these events is required.
    • Cover the Joybound People & Pets reception desk as needed for breaks, lunch, and PTO.
    • Maintain confidentiality of all information.
    • Promote a humane and caring attitude toward all animals and people.
    • Maintain effective communication and cooperation with Joybound People & Pets staff and volunteers.
    • Perform duties in a manner that encourages attainment of goals, contributions, and business for Joybound and its programs.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications


    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred. High school diploma or GED required.
    • Experience of 2-3 years working with pet-related organizations preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Excellent communicator, outgoing, self-motivated, organized, and enthusiastic about the human-animal bond.
    • Committed to cultivating and working with a diverse group of staff, volunteers, and community.
    • Proficient in computer skills including MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Access). Ability to learn new database systems.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to communicate with the public, volunteers, and co-workers in a pleasant, courteous, and tactful manner.
    • Friendly, enthusiastic, and positive attitude.
    • Detail-orientated with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.

    Physical/Environmental Requirements

    • Work environment includes constant exposure to animals and animal allergens.
    • Ability to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds for short distances.
    • Kneel, bend, stoop, squat, reach above and below shoulder level, grasp and turn objects, stand, and/or walk frequently and repetitively throughout each shift.
    • Flex the neck upward and downward; twist the neck and the waist.
    • Sit for long and short periods of time while using a computer.
    • Tetanus and rabies inoculations are required or must be waived.

    Hours

    Full time: 40 hours per week. Daily reporting hours and days of the week may vary according to the department's needs. Weekend and evening work will be required. Periodic change in schedule may be required to cover co-worker time off.

    Salary Range: $27 - $29/hour
