Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019.
    POSITION SUMMARY
    Reporting to the Director Volunteer Engagement and working as a member of the Philanthropy Team, the Volunteer Manager for Homeless Services is responsible for delivering an inclusive model of volunteer engagement that builds community and supports those specifically served by Roof Above’s Homeless Services Programs.
    The person in this role will have direct responsibility for working with program teammates at the Day Services Center and the three shelters to develop and execute volunteer opportunities based on the needs of those we serve and program needs. This person in this position is responsible for building relationships with volunteers to ensure that volunteers have a positive experience and understand their impact on mission. The Volunteer Manager for Homeless Services will manage two Volunteer Engagement Specialists making for a team of three that is fully responsible for being on-site to greet and support volunteers and organize all logistics for volunteer activities.
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • In close partnership with program staff, the Volunteer Manager for Homeless Services assists with developing, implementing, and facilitating a wide range of programs, services, and activities to help support neighbors using Roof Above’s Day Services Center and Roof Above shelters.
    • Oversee the volunteer engagement specialists to greet and support volunteers serving at the Day Services Center, Howard Levine Men’s Shelter and N. Tryon Men’s Shelter.
    • Oversees and schedules Operation Sandwich, bagged breakfast/lunches and drink groups
    • Serves as primary point of contact for the Harvest Haul volunteer program.
    • Serve as back up for volunteer orientations.
    • Ensure that all logistical preparations are made to support volunteer efforts (ie, parking, supplies, etc.)
    • Serve as a key community builder, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for neighbors, program staff, and volunteers.
    • Develop effective communication methods and meaningful relationships with those we serve
    • Serve as a liaison with the communication team for a wide variety of items including but not limited to materials needed for neighbors (ie- newsletter, invite to activities, etc), photos, story gathering, etc.
    • Serve at the liaison to facilities for all needs related to volunteer engagement taking place on campus.
    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.
    • Assume other duties as assigned.
    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
    • Bachelor’s degree with 3-4 years of experience in fundraising, communication, volunteer programming, program management or related field
    • Experience in managing a team
    • Experience in planning events and activities
    • Creative and proactive in developing and operationalizing new ideas
    • Detail oriented and organized with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
    • Superior interpersonal skills
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • A high level of flexibility for working during the evenings and on weekends
    WORKING ENVIRONMENT
    The Philanthropy Team’s Offices are currently located at the Day Services Center. This position’s office will be at N. Tryon Men’s Shelter.
    Position requires evening and weekend work as needed.
    Position requires being on-site.
