    Position Title: Volunteer Services & Outreach Manager

    Reports to: Sr. Director of Philanthropy & Community Engagement

    Direct Reports: Regional Crisis Line & Administration Volunteer Coordinator, Peer Services Volunteer Coordinators

    Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

    Pay rate: $32-36/hour, depending on experience

    Location: Renton/Belltown/Hybrid

    Union: Non-Union Role


    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Manages organization-wide volunteer program, including recruitment, screening/interviewing, orientation, stewardship, recognition, and engagement for individuals, community groups and corporate partners. Ensures organization volunteer opportunities provide meaningful experiences and connection to the mission.


    Oversees volunteer and community engagement activities such as public speaking requests, tabling, and participation in community events. Provides outreach to community and donor groups including program and corporate partners and workplace giving campaigns.


    The Manager is responsible for maintaining a volunteer workforce sufficient to operate our 24-hour Regional Crisis Lines, Warm Line, Teen Link programs, and Survivors of Suicide mentorship program.


    Grounds volunteer and outreach program strategies and operations in the organization’s values including diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB).


    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develops, manages, and implements volunteer program strategies that provide time, skills, and experience to support Crisis Connections’ mission and priorities and the communities we serve; oversees organization-wide volunteerism including program roles, fundraising events, and administrative roles.
    • In collaboration with the CDEI, ensures all volunteer program strategies are developed through a lens of DEIB; engages a wide range of volunteers that represent the communities we serve; and works to create a sense of belonging. Develops and maintains partnerships with volunteer groups and community-based organizations to help ensure volunteers reflect the communities we serve.
    • Partners with program and administrative leadership to assess and track organizational needs and capacity for volunteer engagement.
    • Manages all volunteer recruitment and promotional activities. Partners with Marketing & Communications team to promote volunteer opportunities while adhering to organization’s brand.
    • Manages corporate partner employee engagement opportunities, community tabling events and other outreach opportunities.
    • Develops, manages, and implements volunteer stewardship and recognition including special events and ongoing communications to retain and engage volunteers.
    • Develops and oversees volunteer information sessions, volunteer orientation, ensures tracking of volunteer qualifications for roles such as background checks and personal references, emphasizing risk management best practices. 
    • In collaboration with program and administrative leadership, ensures timely notification and professional communication to volunteer candidates on acceptance or rejection.
    • Provides program and administrative leadership coaching and support with volunteer relations. Supports and advises staff in volunteer supervisory best practices through training, volunteer feedback surveys and collaborating on use of volunteers within programs and administration.
    • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the volunteer program including data tracking & reporting, volunteer software maintenance and other administrative functions (i.e., timely, accurate and organized volunteer records; database management, volunteer inbox management, etc.).
    • Maintains knowledge of, and compliance with, International Council of Helplines accreditation standard and related standards for volunteer services.
    • Works in coordination with Senior Director of Philanthropy & Community Engagement to develop and manage the annual volunteer program budget, as well as the Volunteer Services annual workplan.
    • Manages Volunteer Program policies; develops new policies and procedures as needed.
    • Oversees and ensures coordination across programs of community outreach activities including speaking requests, volunteer recruitment events, program marketing and promotion events and community event.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Minimum 4 years’ experience managing large scale volunteer programs required.
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience supervising staff required.
    • Extensive knowledge of volunteer management practices and risk management issues.
    • Ability to work successfully across departments.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution and delivering constructive feedback.
    • Commitment to fostering an environment of respect for staff and volunteers, genuine relationships, and excellence in our work.
    • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
    • Experience in coordinating training and knowledge about adult and youth learning styles.
    • Extremely organized, proactive, and detail-oriented with excellent follow-through and communication skills.
    • Flexibility to work nights and weekends.

     

    Working Conditions: Individuals in this position should be able to sit or stand for lengthy periods of time. Individuals will need to be able to wear a headset or earphones as they take calls and attend meetings. Individuals will need to manage several IT/software platforms at once and be able to function in an environment with moderate noise and distraction.

    • This position will expose you to conversations about suicide, mental health issues and staff responding to crisis situations.

    Requirements

    Computer Skills Assessment: Crisis Connections requires a basic Computer Skills assessment to measure computer literacy and skills. The assessment is approximately 15 minutes in length, and timed. HR will provide a link to complete the test after screening qualified candidates.
