Job Description: This position is responsible for Process and Equipment Module Engineering in relation to manufacturing PIN, Zener and Schottky Diodes on Silicon and Gallium Arsenide wafers with emphasis on Commercial & Military Communication/RADAR & Instrumentation market for the Lowell, MA division. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Principal Engineer responsibilities include semiconductor wafer fabrication and semiconductor equipment maintenance as the major responsibility in any one or more of the following modules: Photolithography, Diffusion and Oxidation, Wet and Dry Etch, Metallization, Electroplating and minor responsibility in device electrical testing. This position will work closely with Manufacturing and Product Engineering to fully understand the requirements for and the environmental, application and technical performance of the respective products. The Senior Engineer will then use this information to improve the process and equipment performance as well as improving wafer yield and device yield in support of customer requirements. Major Responsibilities: Act as a subject matter expert in the areas of semiconductor wafer fabrication. Detailed understanding of any one of the process modules mentioned above. Study and improve equipment performance for improved reliability and repeatability. Study and improve process performance for improved control and repeatability. Study and improve wafer and device yield to meet customer targets established. Use Statistical Process Control for process monitoring of critical parameters. Use Design of Experiments to improve and optimize process control. Analyze and present data to technical audience. Other critical needs projects may be assigned based on fab performance and customer demand. Manage projects and tasks assigned, support customer requirements, work closely with other module engineers, manufacturing and product engineering. Requirements/Qualifications: 10 years experience required, 5 years of related experience preferred Education: BSEE required, MSEE preferred or related engineering degree or Physics. Ph.D. will be considered. Knowledge and experience with Silicon Wafer Fabrication Process is required. Knowledge of semiconductor equipment is preferred. Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DoE) is required. Experience using JMP or similar software will be a plus Familiar with Six Sigma principles and methods Proficiency in problem solving using 8D reports or other methodologies Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required for data analysis Basic Microsoft PowerPoint and Word skills required Ability to work in a team environment with other Managers, Engineers, Technicians and Production Specialists Strong written and oral communication skills Travel Time: No Travel Physical Attributes: Bending at Waist, Dust or gases, Electrical Hazards, Feeling, Handling, Hearing, Mechanical Hazards, Noise and/or vibration, Reaching, Seeing, Talking, Works Alone, Works Around Others Physical Requirements: 60% sitting, 20% standing, 20% walking; 100% indoors Microchip Technology Inc is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
