Perma-Fix Environmental Services, Inc. is seeking a highly capable Waste Management Specialist to join our team. Perma-Fix is a recognized leader in processing and treating hazardous and radioactive waste for both government and commercial customers. The Waste Management Specialist should have hands-on waste management experience with radioactive and hazardous waste characterization, packaging, storage, and disposition in accordance with RCRA, TSCA, and DOT regulations. This position will require extensive travel to various projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Waste Management Specialist coordinates with waste generating organizations (waste generators) on the classification, acceptance and disposition of waste streams. We are looking for individuals who can perform the following functions:
• Accurately identify waste in accordance with 40 CFR Part 261.
• Characterize and classify waste in accordance with EPA, NRC, and DOT regulations.
• Ensure that waste containers are stored in compliance with EPA regulations for Satellite Accumulation Areas, Central Accumulation Areas, and permitted facilities.
• Compile reports on waste management, recycling activities, etc.
• Perform field visits to hazardous and radiological waste sites.
• Develop sampling and analysis plans to acquire necessary data for waste characterization.
• Compile process knowledge information to define contaminants of concern and the materials subject to characterization.
• Interpret analytical laboratory results.
• Prepare engineering calculations where necessary for materials of construction, or to balance hazardous constituent concentrations across an entire waste stream.
• Complete waste profiles for disposition of waste at permitted TSDFs.
• Maintain familiarity with off-site TSDF Waste Acceptance Criteria.

Requirements
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in waste management, environmental compliance, or waste transportation.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, a scientific discipline, or related technical field.
• Demonstrated experience in wastewater treatment and liquid waste management.
• DOT Hazmat and/or RAM training is a plus.
• Effective communication and collaborative skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
