JOB SUMMARY
The Solid Waste Manager is responsible for overseeing the solid waste and safety programs for the company in accordance with rules and regulations established by the governing body. Including designing and implementing programs consistent with best industry practice. The Solid Waste Manager reports directly to the General Manager and directly assists the General Manager in the planning and operations of the company.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Develop, organize, implement and evaluate the company’s safety program
· Oversee staff training program including driver safety meetings ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
· Oversee accident on-scene response, coordination with law enforcement, insurance, SSC shop, and property owners
· Oversee Commercial Driver’s License tracking and record keeping, notifications, annual driver MVR checks - preparation, compiling, and, insurance submission
· Manage Federal FMCSA tracking through Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse, pre-employment and annual queries for all SSC drivers.
· L&I claims - tracking paperwork and filing to employee files, coordination with upper management and Retro group manager
· OSHA record keeping and posting requirements for all company activities including drivers and maintenance shop
· Oversee driver monitoring, coaching, and improvement programs to improve driver safety and reduce collisions
· Make jobsite visits representing SSC services – garbage, recycling, and storage units
· Work with processors to expand opportunities to Coordinate SSC services for construction and commercial recycling customers
· Waste Audits – conduct commercial customer audits to help customer reduce waste and identify appropriate service levels
· Development Review - Write and submit enclosure compliance letters for ALL commercial and multi-family projects, in coordination with architects and Planning Depts. in each jurisdiction
· Liaison with various community programs that SSC interfaces with such as School Districts, Housing Authority, City and County governments, etc.
· Provide customer service responses – residential, commercial, institutional, from simple one bin orders to preparing quotes for projects Assist in development and implementation of additional program offerings: film plastic, rigid plastics, compostables, construction materials
· Stormwater - Responsible to compile and maintain all paperwork related to SSC Industrial Stormwater Permit (WAR-124606), SSC stormwater facilities and ongoing required testing under SWPPP
· Manage permitting and reporting requirements for various transfer station and drop box locations
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Sciences, Public or Business Administration, or equivalent multidisciplinary science degree and/or work experience.
· Valid Washington State driver’s license.
· Ethical conduct, business acumen, and leadership skills.
· General knowledge of human resources and labor contract administration.
· Effectively meet and work with the public, at times in stressful situations.
· Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others
· Demonstrated experience and skill in managing work programs, projects, and in achieving results.
· Experience using a variety of computer software systems including MS Office suite, word processing, excel, maintenance management system, database management
DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS
· Progressive experience in the solid waste and recycling industry
· Commercial Driver’s License
