Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager supervises the operations and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant to ensure compliance with regulatory procedures and reporting practices. Oversees sampling and testing systems, and the testing and maintenance of pumps, conveyors, blowers, and other equipment. Being a Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager ensures staff is up-to-date with all federal, state, and local regulations and environmental guidelines. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or other tech degree. Additionally, Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager typically reports to a manager or director. The Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Brief Job Summary
This position is responsible for participating in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant. Job Responsibilities
o Performs laboratory tests of water, to include pH, chlorine residual, turbidity, and fluoride.
o Adjusts chemicals as necessary to maintain optimum system performance.
o Monitors water tank levels and makes flow rate changes to meet system demands.
o Makes periodic checks of plant equipment, including feed pumps, flocculators, flash mixer, basins, and high service pumps.
o Maintains plant records as required.
o Backwashes filters as required.
o Refills day chemical tanks.
o Notifies on-call personnel as required.
o Maintains facility, including sweeping, mopping, and buffing floors.
o Monitors SCADA system to maintains quality and system water levels.
o Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
o Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
o Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one or two years.
o Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
o Possession of or ability to readily obtain within one year of date of hire, a Grade C Surface certification.
o Possession of Distribution Certifications, Lab Certification and Maintenance Technician Certification are preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge and Skills Required - o Knowledge of the principles and practices of water treatment and water purification analysis.
o Knowledge of chemical tests applicable to water treatment.
o Knowledge of water treatment plant equipment repair and maintenance techniques.
o Knowledge of appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
o Knowledge of the fundamentals of personal computer operation.
o Knowledge of math applicable to plant maintenance and operations.
o Skill in the operation, repair, and maintenance of water treatment plant laboratory equipment.
o Skill in the maintenance of appropriate records.
o Skill in interpersonal relations.
o Skill in oral and written communication.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. Disclaimer
