SUMMARY:
The Grade 2 Wastewater Treatment Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining wastewater treatment facilities, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position plays a vital role in the protection of public health and the environment by ensuring the effective treatment and disposal of wastewater. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, good problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain wastewater treatment equipment and systems, including pumps, motors, valves, screens, and filters, to ensure optimal performance and compliance with regulations.
Monitor and control the treatment process by adjusting equipment and chemical dosages to maintain proper treatment levels and meet effluent quality standards.
Collect and analyze samples of wastewater, sludge, and other materials to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and to optimize treatment processes.
Conduct routine inspections of the wastewater treatment plant, including equipment, structures, and grounds, to identify and address any maintenance or operational issues.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on wastewater treatment equipment, including troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
Maintain accurate records of operational data, including flow rates, chemical usage, equipment maintenance, and regulatory reporting.
Respond to emergencies, such as equipment failures, power outages, or chemical spills, and coordinate with other team members to minimize disruptions to plant operations.
Participate in ongoing training and education programs to stay current with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and regulatory agencies, both verbally and in writing.
Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to hazard communication and lockout/tagout protocols.
11. Removes recyclables and trash from maintenance/waste treatment areas to dumpster.
Serves as assistant to maintenance.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in a relevant field is a plus.
Possession of a Grade 2 Wastewater Treatment Operator certification, or the ability to obtain within a specified timeframe, as required by the state or local regulatory agency.
A minimum of two years of experience in wastewater treatment operations, preferably at a similar or larger-sized facility.
Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, equipment, and regulatory requirements.
Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, with the ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on safety and environmental stewardship.
Flexibility to work varying shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed to support plant operations.
