Waste Water Treatment Technician ensures that pumps, conveyors, blowers, chlorinators, vacuum equipment and other waste water treatment equipment are functioning properly. Monitors equipment for potential failures and may make minor repairs or adjustments as needed. Being a Waste Water Treatment Technician collects water samples for chemical analysis. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Additionally, Waste Water Treatment Technician typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Waste Water Treatment Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.     Performs work in the maintenance of the grounds and buildings and residuals management for the City's Water Treatment Plants and related facilities. Successful performance ensures an effective, safe, appealing, and efficient operation of the grounds, facilities, and residuals program. An incumbent in this position may be designated as Water Resource Technician I or II.

    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
    Major DutiesPerforms duties related to the residuals management program involving sand drying beds, vacuum trucks, backhoes, tillers and dewatering equipment.Performs lawn care and maintenance of plants and related facilities.Performs preventive maintenance of mowers and other lawn equipment.Assists mechanics with electrical and mechanical repair and maintenance.Operates tractors, backhoes, sprayers, and tractors with trailers as needed.Assists with the loading and unloading of chemical supplies.Performs basic repair work in the performance of housekeeping duties.Assists in the cleaning and maintenance of plant buildings.Performs inspections of fire extinguishers, emergency showers, eye washstations, and emergency lighting, and other emergency systems.GuidelinesGuidelines include city policies and procedures; relevant federal, state and local regulation; standard operating procedures, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.Supervisory/Management ResponsibilityNone

    The work is typically performed at plant and related facilities, or work site.The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching.The work is performed in a very noisy place and the employee is exposed to much dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals; contagious or infectious diseases; or the work may be performed outdoors and occasionally in cold or inclement weather, and may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.
