This classification evaluates, develops, modifies, and implements computer applications and software systems and performs user support services in the Management Information Systems Department. Position is under the supervision of the Information Systems Manager and is subject to after hours, weekend, and holiday work as needed.
Provides technical expertise in designing, testing, and developing applications. Organizes projects with user departments and support services. Develops detailed system specifications and data layouts. Discusses hardware and software facilities with management.
Establishes and ensures compliance with standards for analysis and programming efforts. Interprets programming messages, identifies issues and system errors, and initiates corrective actions.
Analyzes information to develop new or modify present application systems. Evaluates new application proposals and estimates system resources needed. With management approval, schedules development and coordinates the functional specification into overall system design.
Works and assists with developing and coordinating personal computer and network services provided by the department. Assists supervisor and staff with software and hardware installation, maintenance, operation, and performance.
Prepares and presents schedules and progress reports to management for systems and programming activities.
Assists with user documentation and training materials; provides training assistance. Maintains records to supplement help desk support, including problems and solutions provided.
Performs system backup procedures, such as copying files, taking checkpoints, and maintaining message logs. Maintains and enforces security environment and procedures.
Installs, tests, and supports assigned vendor software; troubleshoots programming solutions and systems.
Maintains current knowledge of software/hardware standards and advances in data processing; recommends innovations and new developments for improved user experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred; supplemented by two (2) years of experience in computer programming and application design; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment.
Work Schedule:
M – F, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Subject to work after hours, weekends and holidays as needed.
