Welder joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques. Interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process. Being a Welder inspects completed welds to determine structural soundness. Familiar with and complies with all safety requirements and protocols for working in a hazardous environment. Additionally, Welder may prepare the materials and set up for a welding device or robot. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Welder works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for track maintenance (constructing, inspecting,andrepairing track); constructing, inspecting, and repairing otherrailroad propertyandfacilities;
andequipment operation andmaintenance.
TRACK MAINTENANCE
Lift and carry track material
Assist in track maintenance
TRUCK MAINTENANCE
Schedule regular service for welding trucks
Ensure trucks and equipment are in good repair
Submit necessary paperwork for truck and welding equipment repairs
WELDER
Weld, grind, and cut rail
Operate welding truck safely and efficiently
Maintain daily records and time sheets
