Welder joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques. Interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process. Being a Welder inspects completed welds to determine structural soundness. Familiar with and complies with all safety requirements and protocols for working in a hazardous environment. Additionally, Welder may prepare the materials and set up for a welding device or robot. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Welder works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. This position lays out, fits, and welds metal components as specified by layout, welding diagram or work order to assemble structural forms
A.A. Degree or Welder Certificate from a technical college or trade school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to interpret prints and be knowledgeable of all welding symbols is preferred.
Ability to read and understand tape measure and calipers.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one to other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form.
Ability to operate hand tools & air powered tools.
Ability to operate hoist.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Will be required to pass a Multiquip Welder Certification test within 3 months of employment.
