Welder joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques. Interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process. Being a Welder inspects completed welds to determine structural soundness. Familiar with and complies with all safety requirements and protocols for working in a hazardous environment. Additionally, Welder may prepare the materials and set up for a welding device or robot. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Welder works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Overview
The Structural Welder will create frames for large structures. Most possess ability to set up equipment and weld either pipe, plate or structural steel using arc, gas-shielded arc or gas welding equipment.
Must be able to produce quality work with reasonable efficiency. Will obtain certification as necessary. Must learn and understand all safety hazards related to the work and learn to safely and effectively use or operate work related tools and equipment.
Will be required to work in a plant operations or construction jobsite setting.
