POSITION SUMMARY
The Pediatric Dental Consultant assumes responsibility for providing limited safe dental screening and preventative treatment to children. This includes examination and ordering of dental sealants and supervising the care provided by the dental hygienist and/or dental hygiene students. Follows established dental standards, procedures, and practices, and gives specific patient care directions to dental and other staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
- Assist in the development and edits to the dental sealant policy and procedure manual
- Assist with and make recommendation for equipment required for dental sealant program
- Provide supervision to dental hygienists during scheduled dental sealant days scheduled at Department of Education Schools in Hawaii.
- Perform dental assessment of students who have signed consents to participate in the dental screening and possible dental sealant applications
- Diagnose children with any urgent dental problems requiring dental referral
- Order dental sealants for eligible students once examination is completed
- Oversee the application of the dental sealants for proper technique to assure quality control
- Monitor the billing for dental services (limited examination and sealant application) for those students who receive services
- Review and sign data collected at each school site
- Sign the dental evaluation sheets for return to parents
- Report to Program Director any concerns or suggestions for improvement in the dental sealant program process
- Communicate with Hawaii Keiki Administration and Program Director for scheduling requests for dental sealant days
- Comply with all legal requirements and company policies
- Perform all other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education/Training/Experience
Minimum:
- Current Hawaii Board of Dental Examiners License
- Certification in General Dentistry
- Current CPR certification
- At least 5 years of experience in the professional practice of General Dentistry
- At least 5 years of experience working with mobile dental clinic equipment
- At least 10 years of experience consulting in the health care community in Hawaii
Preferred:
- Certification in Pediatric Dentistry
- Currently practicing dentistry in a pediatric clinical setting
- Experience with supervising dental hygienist and students in the field of dentistry
- At least 5 years of experience in the professional practice of Pediatric Dentistry
- Experience in the provision of dental care to children including those with specials needs
- At least 5 years of experience working in various community pediatric dental sites
- Experience managing dental hygienist
JOB CONDITIONS
- School environment for sealant program days will vary based on each school and designated area for the program but must include provision for delivery of safe and effective dental services.
- Projected time for each school sealant day will range from 3-5 hours based on location and number of children in the second grade and those identified as needing sealants.
- Dental consultant must approve each date of service in order to assure that he/she is available to provide the needed supervision and assessments at each designated school.
