Women's Athletics Director directs all facets of a university/college's women's athletic program, including intramural and intercollegiate sports. Manages the entire women's coaching staff. Being a Women's Athletics Director schedules use of facilities, transportation, and sporting events. Also responsible for fundraising, publicity, ticket pricing and distribution, and purchase of new equipment. Additionally, Women's Athletics Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Women's Athletics Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Visitation has one of the strongest athletic programs in the area, having won the Lewis Cup for overall athletic excellence 13 times - more than any other school in the Independent School League. We field 24 teams and two-thirds of our students will participate in Visitation Athletics during their four years here. While our student-athletes earn recognition as All-League and Washington Post All-Met athletes and even national honors, with many continuing their careers at the collegiate level, we take greater pride in the values our players bring to and learn on the field.

    Participation in the athletic program at Visitation reinforces values essential to our students’ growth hard work, skill development, good sportsmanship, selfless teamwork, and the achievement of personal and team goals. Athletic participation is always secondary to the student’s academic responsibilities. The athletic program at Visitation serves to foster school spirit, pride in our teams’ accomplishments, and the promotion of healthy and respectful competition with the schools with whom we compete.

    The Director of Athletics is a visionary leader who is a strong advocate for female athletes; an enthusiastic supporter of the power of teamwork and collaboration; and advocate for healthy mind-body balance. The Director helps ensure our athletes develop into self-confident, mature, independent, and well-balanced young women who can both win and lose graciously.

    Responsibilities (brief description)

    • Hires, trains, and supervises all coaches, ensuring all background check items are completed and coaches understand and support the mission and charism of the school;

    • Educates coaches about Visitation’s media and social media policies and helps ensure compliance;

    • Works with communications office to ensure all teams, uniforms, and gear are aligned with Visitaiton’s brand guidelines;

    • Promotes Visitation in area middle schools and supports student athletes transition to the next level;

    • Collaborates with colleagues to schedule and maintain the Fisher Athletic Center facility and equipment;

    • Produces and provides written and oral reports to the school president, principal, parents’ association and other constituencies as needed.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in education, athletics, or a related field (master's degree preferred)

    • Minimum of five years of relevant experience (experience in Catholic or independent schools preferred)

    • Strong written and oral communication and organizational skills

    • Proficiency using technology, including the internet, database, and word-processing programs
