Women's Athletics Director directs all facets of a university/college's women's athletic program, including intramural and intercollegiate sports. Manages the entire women's coaching staff. Being a Women's Athletics Director schedules use of facilities, transportation, and sporting events. Also responsible for fundraising, publicity, ticket pricing and distribution, and purchase of new equipment. Additionally, Women's Athletics Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Women's Athletics Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Basic Function:
    The position is responsible for a comprehensive program of senior intercollegiate athletics including the supervision and administration of 22 varsity sports programs, coaching, athletic performance and wellness, fitness center and programs, general recreational activities and indoor and outdoor athletic facilities.

    Representative Duties:
    Develop and implement department policies. E
    Hire, evaluate and provide direction for the departments professional and support staff. E
    Plan, disburse and manage the budget. E
    Represent the University to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA, the national Athletic conference), the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC, the local athletic conference), and all other collegiate institutions involved with the Universitys athletic program. E
    Act as a University spokesperson in a wide variety of forums to numerous constituencies including print and electronic media. E
    Maintain programs for 350 student-athletes in varsity sports; maintain programs for intramurals and athletic facilities for an additional and approximate 600 students for a total athletic involvement of two-thirds of the undergraduate student body. E
    Facilitate the scheduling of 350 athletic contests and authorize the accompanying contractual agreements. E
    Monitor and certify student-athlete academic and athletic eligibility. E
    Supervise, monitor and compliance with all national and local athletic conference rules and regulations. E
    Supervise the areas of sales, marketing, promotions, advertising and publicity. E
    Assist in the identification of and solicitation of potential donors to the University and the athletics department. E
    Manage all aspects of home athletic contests, including NCAA playoffs (which could and has included drug testing); aspects include hosting visiting teams, home and visiting fans, officials and crowd control. E
    Oversee all aspects of sports program fundraising. E
    Act as the risk manager for the athletic department. E
    Develop, monitor and implement long-range plans. E
    Promote, through hiring and monitoring, the Universitys commitment to gender equity and diversity. E
    Handle all aspects of NCAA and SCIAC rules compliance including interpretation, implementation and monitoring. E
    Advise the Faculty Athletic Policies Committee. E

    E = Essential Duties

    Knowledge Of:
    NCAA and SCIAC philosophy, rules, regulations regarding eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, sport playing seasons, etc.
    Issues concerning risk management.
    Sound accounting/budgeting principles.
    General knowledge of all areas related to intercollegiate (and recreational) athletics.
    The intricate dynamics, political and otherwise, between all constituencies involved with an institution of higher learning and its athletics programs, internally and externally.
    Oral and written communication skills
    Microsoft Office Suite - including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

    Ability To:
    Coordinate and administer all aspects of a comprehensive senior intercollegiate athletics program and to devote sufficient energy and time to do the same.
    Process and manage budgeting responsibly, realistically, on target, on time and follow all appropriate procedures.
    Understand, accurately interpret and apply conference and institutional rules and regulations.
    Make decisions skillfully including creative resourcefulness, common sense, sensitivity, a global perspective and timeliness.
    Interact well with supervisors advising on activities, acting independently when appropriate and beneficial, and recommending ideas for problem solving.
    Submit information requested from a wide variety of constituencies accurately and on time.
    Employ appropriate supervisory skills with professional and support staff, student workers and other institutional staff.
    Stay current with the profession.
    Successfully interact with other institutional departments.
    Organize and express written and verbal thoughts clearly and effectively.
    Be flexible and understanding of alternative approaches as it relates to adapting to change.
    Demonstrate a positive attitude while promoting cooperation within the campus community.
    Represent the University in a first-rate manner including appearance and conduct.
    Influence and encourage staff and students involved with programs to be good citizens and students.
    Remain composed in confrontational or crisis situations.
    Treat all staff and students involved with programs with honesty, fairness and sensitivity

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Any combination equivalent to: A Masters degree in sport management, athletic administration, physical education or related area and 7 years previous increasingly supervisory experience or equivalent. Previous experience with NCAA rules compliance, preferably on a DIII level. General intercollegiate athletic experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Doctorate Degree

    Licenses and Other Requirements:
    Valid California drivers license.
    CPR, First Aid and AED Certified

    Physical Abilities:
    Detect to understand appropriate written correspondence; operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer; communicate to exchange information in person, in writing, on the telephone and by email; stationary position for extended periods of time; carrying, pushing or pulling; lifting heavy objects/individuals required in rehabilitative activities.

    Working Environment:
    Indoor and outdoor work environment; driving a vehicle to conduct work; subject to adverse weather conditions; subject to evening, weekend and variable working hours
