Wood Machine Operator sets-up and operates a wood machine. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Being a Wood Machine Operator may have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Additionally, Wood Machine Operator relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Job Summary: The wood shop machine operator and fabricator utilizes wood shop equipment to fabricate various furniture components using wood and plastic parts. The primary items fabricated are furniture components. The wood shop supports several other departments, including furniture fabrication, the metal shop, and the assembly line.
Key Responsibilities:
Adheres to all safety policies and procedures
Follows all pre-established installation and quality methods, procedures and guidelines to ensure consistency of work
Reads order-specific job travelers and/or engineered drawings to ensure each order is produced to specifications
Uses various hand and power tools to fabricate various wood parts and furniture components
Completes all job duties within given time constraints
Performs other duties as assigned
Cross-trains between several different jobs
Cleans and maintains work area
Pursues continuous improvement to improve efficiency of job duties and work flow
Job Requirements:
High school diploma or GED
Attention to detail
Excellent problem solving skills
Good verbal and written communication skills
Needs good visual judgment to notice errors and/or defects
Ability to accurately read a tape measure
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to work in a fast paced, multifunctional team oriented work environment
Ability to work variable hours with short notice (up to 50 hrs. per week)
Physical Requirements and Environment
Must be physically capable of safely lifting a minimum of 75 lbs. without assistance
Involves standing, bending, lifting, and twisting for long periods as required
Requires repetitive movement
Includes exposure to noise levels that are distracting and/or uncomfortable
Includes exposure to a dusty environment
Requires wearing personal protective equipment
