Wood Machine Operator sets-up and operates a wood machine. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Being a Wood Machine Operator may have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Additionally, Wood Machine Operator relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. CNC Machine Operator

  • We are currently looking for a CNC Operator to join our 2nd shift. The current schedule is 4:00PM to 04:00AM Monday to Thursday with overtime.

    Responsibilities:

    • Organizes work area to remove previous job's data package, tooling, fixturing and remaining materials.
    • Maintains a clean work environment.
    • Maintains a clean work cart / toolbox.
    • Clears chips from inside the machine tool at the end of each shift.
    • Keeps the floor around the machine tool free of spills, chips and debris.
    • Maintains a safe work environment.
    • Verifies all machine fluid levels and maintenance.

    Coolant level and concentration (10%, unless otherwise specified).
    Way lube or Way grease level (depending on machine type).
    Air oil level.
    Cleans coolant tank filters and screens.
    Cleans cooling fan air filters.
    Verifies operation of coolant pumps, including high pressure coolant systems.

    • Reports non-conforming output to Quality Department for disposition at the time it is identified by the Operator.
    • Selects and downloads correct program from server in accordance with WI-750-005 “NC Program Download”.
    • Selects proper tooling and fixtures required to manufacture product.
    • Inspects all tooling and fixtures, including vises (mounted or unmounted) for cleanliness and accuracy.
    • Is responsible for improper set-up of fixtures or use of previously mounted fixtures that were not inspected prior to starting production, as this will cause unnecessary loss of product, materials, time and tools.
    • Verifies program is correctly labeled and contains proper header information, including:

    Customer Code
    Part Number
    Revision
    Operation Code (i.e. op. A, op. B, etc.)
    “Proven” or “Not Proven” with date and initials
    Work Piece Set-up Information (i.e. Position of material, fixture description, Work Offset, etc.)
    Tooling Descriptions (i.e. T10=1/2” 3 FL Carbide Endmill x 1.0” LOC, HO=1.20”, CC=Actual), at a minimum. Brand and part number of tool should be included when available.
    Work Offset Being Utilized. Include all offsets if multiple offsets are utilized in program.

    • Performs probing or locating functions to store Work Offset of part in machine.
    • Performs probing or manual tool length offset functions for each tool required.
    • Watches each tool change and slowly approaches part to verify correct tool and offset location.
    • Reviews instructions provided on traveler, set-up sheets, work instructions and program data.
    • Reviews and understands Blueprints and Engineering Documents. Will request assistance from Supervisor or Management Team prior to starting job, if there are unclear expectations / directions.
    • Reviews expected results of set-up and cycle time.
    • Records actual results of set-up and cycle time on traveler or scheduling software.
    • List any reasons for unexpected results or improved performance.
    • Submits first piece for approval and completes step information on traveler.
    • Periodically inspects parts for correct dimensions and finish, including:

    Visual inspection of part for scratches, burrs, excessive tooling marks, etc.
    Visual inspection to confirm part represents drawing design. (i.e. correct number of holes, chamfer edges, general feature layout, etc.)
    Verification of dimensional performance using measuring tools, test fixtures, gages, etc., per WI-824-001 level based on total quantity being machined. (NOTE: it is the Operator's responsibility to confirm inspection is determined at the onset of the job. The Quality department will aid, as needed to determine methods of inspection.)
    Documentation of in process inspection as determined above. Records of inspection shall be kept with the job packet and be in order, legible and signed by the Operator.

    • Completes/initiates reject identification in the event of a nonconforming output.
    • Keeps product in a neat and in order of production run to aid in identification of potential suspect output.
    • Completes traveler at the completion of the step using the traveler fields and/or software as directed.
    • Packages and/or prepares product for next step per traveler instruction and notifies Production Manager at completion.
    • Saves program to server in accordance with WI-750-006 “NC Program Upload”.
    • Cleans cart to prepare for next job.
    • Clears all un-needed tooling from the machine and returns it to the proper storage location or tool crib manager.
    • Clears chips from machine tool bed, coolant filter tray, chip auger/conveyor and chip bin. (NOTE: Chip auger/conveyor and chip bin only need to be cleared is next job is running different material. However, ensure they are ready to receive material to maintain constant production.)
    • Reports to Production Cell Lead and/or Production Manager.
    • Performs any necessary task as requested/directed by supervisor or management. (Task may or may not be directly associated with your normal job function. However, we are a TEAM and from time to time another department may require additional resources to complete a job on time. Sometimes these additional tasks may seem menial, but they are required to maintain a constant flow of production and to meet the requirements of our customers. You shall never be asked to do something morally or ethically wrong. If you are, please report this to the Human Resource Manager or President of the Company immediately.)
    • Maintains compliancy with the Quality Managements System and AS9100/ISO9001 standards.
    • A negative drug screen is required to qualify for this position.

    Experience/Education/Skills

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Computer, math, programming and setup skills recommended.
    • On the job training or vocational

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $15.00 - $15.75 per hour
